What is a Sensory-Friendly Concert?
As a commitment of the MOB’s direction of being INCLUSIVE & making Handbells accessible to EVERYONE, this will be a sensory-friendly as well as a family-friendly show, especially for families & persons with special needs and families with young children.
PRE-SHOW SENSORY EXPERIENCE @
6.30pm Onwards (FREE OF CHARGE)
Audience are invited to a pre-show sensory-experience from 6.30pm at the atrium where they will be led through the different sensory “stations” (eg: Touch, Hear, Sight, Feel, Movement, Proprioception), with activities related to the concert (Colouring – Chimes Ringing – Drumming, Games, Photobooth, Hands-On, Educational Exhitbition about Autism , Interaction with Artistes… etc). This will prepare the minds & senses of the persons with special needs & children and their families on what to expect later at the concert proper. The exhibition is for public education.
DURING THE CONCERT @ 7.30pm: Audience members will be free to BE THEMSELVES. Headphones will also be provided (for children with special needs UPON REQUEST). If you have a pair that your child uses, it would be advisable to bring it along. Loud sounds and sudden lighting surprises will be used. However if any slightly louder sounds are about to take place, audiences will be given a signal.
CONCERT HALL DOORS WILL OPEN AT 6.45PM for early entry for your child to condition and get used to the large venue. Please look at your tickets for your assigned seat numbers.
Our signature volunteers (in pink attire) for this show are Special Education trained, should any emergencies arise, our ushers will handle them appropriately according to detailed protocols. Audience members may also seek their aid should the need arises.
“A sensory-friendly performance, uses 10% less provocative lighting effects, lower volume output & shorter 40mins x 2 half performance which allows the persons with special needs to enjoy the show in a safe environment that caters to their senses and their emotions. This show will also allow the audience to “be comfortable & be themselves” & to express themselves freely without fear of disturbing other concert goers. There will also be a calm-down room & an energy space made available for anyone that requires any time-out. Sensory stimulating items will also be made available for the child should they require. Our signature of the Sensory-Friendly show is the PRE-SHOW EXPERIENCE. Don't miss it ...... " (From MOB’9 Sensory-Friendly Handbell Concert in January 2016).
The MOB created this sensory-friendly performance especially to include & accommodate families and persons with special needs, to enjoy an arts performance in a safe and welcoming environment, where they can truly be themselves, and in the presence of other audiences.
This also allows social-integration & learning/understanding of persons with special needs & showcases their ABILITIES & POTENTIALS.
The MOB is a NOT-FOR-PROFIT (Handbell) Arts Organisation.
